Urban Earth is a sustainability consultancy that was established in 2013 and has staff based in Cape Town and Durban, South Africa. Our work focuses on building the capacity of officials and communities to tackle environmental problems such as climate change. We also aim to harness the technology of the fourth industrial revolution to assist officials and communities in responding more effectively to environmental problems. Our clients include local government, development agencies, private companies, and non-profit organisations.

Money Savvy is revolutionising the way financial knowledge is disseminated to generations of South Africans. It is questioning the traditional schooling system, which currently produces more followers than leaders. It infuses children, from a very young age, with the problem-solving and critical thinking skills they need to make financial decisions now and in the future, using the analytical skills they learn through the Money Savvy programmes.

I had the privilege of working with Kalnisha and the KD Strategies team on an initiative investigating opportunities to increase community-driven climate action synergies between local governments, Independent Power Producers and development focused civil society organisations. The team worked with agility and flexibility in a challenging environment. The stakeholder engagement stood out, using an extensive existing network the team used trust-based, cross-sector relationships, allowing deeper insights into barriers and opportunities for shifting the global south narrative into centre stage in the response for the climate crises. The result was a groundbreaking study, with clear direction for action, further research and deeper investigation for social justice advocates, private sector mitigation investors, philanthropic funders, government representatives and other actors within the climate and development nexus.
